Remove the sound from a video
Free, with no upload and no watermark. The sound is removed and the picture is kept exactly as it is, right in this browser tab.
- No upload
- Picture not re-encoded
- No watermark
This video already has no sound. You can still save a copy.
This is a large file. The new video is built in your computer's memory, so it may fail on a computer with little free memory.
Keep this tab open. You can switch to other tabs while it works.
Mute a video in three steps
No program to install and no account. It all happens in this page.
-
1
Add your video
Drop the file on the box above, or click “Choose a file”. MP4, WebM, MOV and MKV work.
-
2
Remove the sound
Click the button. The picture is copied as it is, so even a long video takes only seconds.
-
3
Download it
Check the result in the page, then save it. MP4 and MOV videos come out as MP4, WebM videos as WebM.
Your video stays on your computer
Most online video tools upload your file to their server. This one doesn't need to.
Nothing is uploaded
The page uses the video tools built into your browser. Once it has loaded, it even works offline.
No waiting in a queue
No upload and no download of the result means even a long screen recording is done as fast as your computer allows.
No limits
No sign-up, no watermark and no daily cap. Use it on as many files as you like.
Questions, answered
Is this tool free?expand_more
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of files.
Is my video uploaded to a server?expand_more
No. It all runs inside your browser, on your computer. The file is never sent anywhere, and the page keeps working if you go offline after it has loaded. Read the privacy policy for details.
Does removing the sound lower the quality?expand_more
No. The picture is copied into the new file without re-encoding, so it looks exactly the same. Only the sound is left out.
What format is the muted video?expand_more
The same as the picture inside the original: MP4 and MOV videos come out as MP4, WebM videos as WebM. An MKV comes out as MP4 or WebM, depending on the video inside it. To change the format too, use the WebM to MP4 or MP4 to WebM converter and switch off “Keep the sound”.
Is there a file size limit?expand_more
There is no fixed limit. The finished video is held in your computer's memory until you download it, so files of a few gigabytes may fail on computers with little memory.
Which browsers does it work in?expand_more
Recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Opera and Safari, and Firefox 130 or newer. It uses the browser's built-in video tools (WebCodecs).
How do I record my screen without sound?expand_more
Use PulseRecorder, the free screen recorder for Chrome and Edge. Switch off the tab sound and the microphone before you press record. The tutorials show how.
Record without sound from the start
PulseRecorder records your tab, window or screen, with or without sound, and saves it as MP4 or GIF. Free, no account.
