MKV to MP4 converter
Free, with no upload and no watermark. Turn OBS recordings and other MKV files into MP4 in this browser tab. The file never leaves your computer.
- No upload
- H.264 copied in seconds
- No watermark
This is a large file. The MP4 is built in your computer's memory, so it may fail on a computer with little free memory.
Keep this tab open. You can switch to other tabs while it works.
Convert MKV to MP4 in three steps
No program to install and no account. It all happens in this page.
-
1
Add your MKV
Drop the file on the box above, or click “Choose a file”. OBS recordings work.
-
2
Pick the quality
Most OBS recordings are already H.264, so “Original” copies the picture into an MP4 in seconds with no quality loss.
-
3
Download the MP4
Watch the result in the page, then save it. It plays on Windows, Android, in video editors and on social sites.
Your video stays on your computer
Most online video tools upload your file to their server. This one doesn't need to.
Nothing is uploaded
The page uses the video tools built into your browser. Once it has loaded, it even works offline.
No waiting in a queue
No upload and no download of the result means even a long screen recording is done as fast as your computer allows.
No limits
No sign-up, no watermark and no daily cap. Use it on as many files as you like.
Questions, answered
Is this MKV to MP4 converter free?expand_more
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of files.
Is my video uploaded to a server?expand_more
No. It all runs inside your browser, on your computer. The file is never sent anywhere, and the page keeps working if you go offline after it has loaded. Read the privacy policy for details.
Why does OBS record in MKV?expand_more
If OBS or the computer crashes during a recording, an MKV file can still be opened up to that point. An MP4 cut off mid-way usually can’t. That is why OBS suggests MKV, and you convert to MP4 afterwards.
Can I make OBS record MP4 directly?expand_more
Yes. In OBS, open Settings, then Output, and set the recording format to MP4, or to Hybrid MP4 in OBS 30.2 or newer, which also survives a crash. For files you already have, OBS’s File menu has “Remux Recordings”, which does the same as “Original” here.
Why are some files done in seconds?expand_more
When the video inside the MKV is already H.264, “Original” copies it into the MP4 without re-encoding it. Only the sound is converted when needed, so even a long recording is quick and looks exactly the same.
Is there a file size limit?expand_more
There is no fixed limit. The finished MP4 is held in your computer's memory until you download it, so files of a few gigabytes may fail on computers with little memory.
Which browsers does it work in?expand_more
Recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Opera and Safari, and Firefox 130 or newer. It uses the browser's built-in video tools (WebCodecs).
